About the Course

The Certificate Course in Basic Spoken Sanskrit is designed to act as a doorway for anyone interested in having direct access to Ancient and Modern Sanskrit Literature. It will equip the students with a basic conceptual and applied understanding of Sanskrit as a language and a tool for training the mind.

At the end of the Course, the participants will achieve the following:
  • Have an appreciation of the special characteristics of Sanskrit as a language
  • Understand its grammatical structure in theory and practice
  • Become familiar with some of its noun and verb forms
  • Learn some memorable simple verses
  • Acquire the confidence that it is not a difficult language to learn and speak

The course aims to provide:
  • Promote this ‘Deva bhasha’ – ‘Language of the Gods’ as a ‘Lokabhasha’ – ‘Language of the people’ as well
  • Create an awareness about the wonder that is Sanskrit
  • Promote this ancient language as a contemporary living spoken language
  • Help those who are studying Sanskrit to connect to it in a simple and direct manner
  • Provide a basic foundation of Sanskrit for yoga practitioners who would be interested in reading original yoga texts eventually
